Step 5 - Income Assistance

Have you applied to be certified as Blind, Deaf, or Disabled?

You answered "no".

Here is the information you will need to apply to be certified as Blind, Deaf, or Disabled

If you are a person with a disability, you may be eligible to be certified as Blind, Deaf, or Disabled. The decision of whether you meet the criteria to be in the Blind, Deaf, or Disabled category is made by the Medical Advisory Board. This Board is made up of physicians and a representative of the Social Development Department. The Board reviews applications to determine if the appropriate criteria are met. If you are certified for the Blind, Deaf or Disabled category, the decision is permanent.

You will also be considered separately from other individuals in your household unless the individuals are your legal or common-law partner or your dependent. If your legal or common-law partner or dependent are also certified in the Blind, Deaf or Disabled category, your cases may also be considered separately.

If you are above the age of 19 years old, it has been determined you are eligible for Income Assistance and you are waiting to see if you qualify for the Blind, Deaf or Disabled Category, you may receive assistance at the rate of the Interim or Transition Assistance amount. To see the amount you would be eligible for, you can see the Rate Schedule.
