The following will be reviewed:

  • Your financial situation, and
  • The unique impact of your disability.

Each step involved in the application process for the Manitoba Supports for Persons with Disabilities will be described in detail in this guide. You can leave the site and come back later when you have more time, energy, and any documents you may need for a step.

If you are approved to receive the Manitoba Supports for Persons with Disabilities

The new program will offer two types of assistance: help with daily living expenses and help to connect with services in the community.

Income support

If eligible for this program, you can receive money for living expenses, housing, and potentially other unique supports that you need. The amount you get will depend on your living situation and other financial resources you may have access to. If eligible, the amount of benefits you may get is calculated by adding up the amount of disability support you can get plus the amount of shelter benefits you can get. This amount is then subtracted from the amount of income your household has each month.

Community Helper services

The program can also help you build a strong support network and access programs that are right for you. This help is optional and will be available later in 2023.

Fast and accessible service

Changes underway will reduce the amount of paperwork for people accepted into this program. One centralized team will deliver payments. That means clients can count on fast, reliable, consistent service with less red tape.

Important information about benefits for Indigenous Peoples

If you are Indigenous there are many things that affect the benefits you can get and the dollar amounts you can get from them. These include the agreements your band or governing body has with provincial, territorial, and federal governments. Before applying to any benefits, you should speak with your governing body, if applicable.

AFOA Canada and Prosper Canada are currently seeking funding to develop an online tool that serves the needs of Indigenous people living in Canada.
